❓Did You Expect Recovery?

and update on local newsletter life

In partnership with

How’d you spend your weekend?

I didn’t embrace the “do nothing” vibe that I intended to, but that’s mostly cause I worked a little on some ecomm stores that I’m excited about.

And I watched people getting salty on Twitter about some of the HCU recoveries.

More on that in a moment.

But first, I’ve got another sponsor today. So, give ‘em a click to check out their offer and get entered to win ALL the ads earnings for the month.

Modernize your marketing with AdQuick

AdQuick unlocks the benefits of Out Of Home (OOH) advertising in a way no one else has. Approaching the problem with eyes to performance, created for marketers with the engineering excellence you’ve come to expect for the internet.

Marketers agree OOH is one of the best ways for building brand awareness, reaching new customers, and reinforcing your brand message. It’s just been difficult to scale. But with AdQuick, you can easily plan, deploy and measure campaigns just as easily as digital ads, making them a no-brainer to add to your team’s toolbox.

Are You Really Surprised?

It’s been an interesting few days in this new algo update started rolling out.

Honestly, I’m not sure what people were expect from Google, but they should have known better.

I stated early on what I expected would happen.

But it seems like a lot of people did not expect that to happen cause I’m seeing a lot of saltiness.

Yes, all the sites that were very public about airing their feelings about how great their site is and it shouldn’t have been hit are all seeing big gains in these early days.

For the rest of us?

Well, some are reporting some small gains that are giving them hope. And some are reporting further carnage.

I can contribute that I’m seeing both of those things with my sites.

Of course, it’s early days and this thing will be rolling out for weeks, so who knows what the end results will be for that group of the loudest niche site owners.

Anyways, this tweet was shared in the Advise group and definitely worth a read (warning: it’s a long read!).

Week 18 of Newsletter Life Starts Now

Today marks week #18 of doing a local newsletter on Beehiiv.

We’re currently a few subscribers over 3,100 (as of this morning).

I’m thinking about reducing my Facebook ads budget for leads and trying to focus more on getting free leads from places like Reddit.

This will reduce our lead cost and stop adding so much to our monthly expenses.

I’m also going to be doing some proper outreach this week to local businesses to get sponsors. Hopefully something will come from the effort!

Reminder: I'm writing updates about my local newsletter on Twitter here.

Next Time…

Upcoming topics: more tips and ideas on Etsy and KDP, how it’s going with my chatGPT fiction ebook and the AI music thingie, and growing an ecomm site.

If you have a topic you want covered just reply and let me know.

Stay awesome,

Shawna

P.S. If you’re looking for high level discussions or tips on things like local SEO and Rank & Rent, I highly recommend Jacky Chou’s Advise community. I’ve been in it for several months and there’s tons of value in it, including a SOP for local SEO.
