At the start of every quarter when I check-in with myself, I always end up changing my goals. At least that’s how it’s been going for me this year.

Partly that is due to the Google bullshit in March, the other part is really just evolving and changing what matters to me and what I want to work on for the next few years.

Haven’t sat down to look at things for this new quarter yet though. So, who knows what’s in store for me.

Junk-Ass Site vs Spam Update

Okay, okay, it’s not fair to call this a junk-ass site because only two out of almost 200 posts on it are even partly AI content. Those two are 100% AI content and the rest were all hand-written by me.

That content is just stuff I moved from one of my de-indexed sites as a test….but this isn’t the only site that I’ve moved it to.

If you recall, I started talking about this site because I noticed that it was taking off in Ahrefs and discovered even better results in my analytics.

The height of traffic so far was 134 pageviews on June 25th. Then traffic started inching back down a bit.

Though now it’s heading back up?

The niche is road trips, so it’s good time of year for that. Tried to get AdSense on the site but rejected for thin content - likely due to the dummy logos, lorem ipsum text, and empty pages created by the AI site builder.

I really wanna leave all that junk just to see what Google continues to do with the site. But I also wanna capitalize on the growing traffic.

So, I may clean that up a bit. Haven’t decided for sure.

Though it seems like a core update is brewing and I don’t wanna put in work on something that may get crushed.

However, I am in the midst of spinning up some new content so I hope a core update doesn’t come along and crush it.

Week 11 of Newsletter Life Starts Now

Today marks week #11 of doing a local newsletter on Beehiiv.

We’re currently just a few subscribers under 2,300 - obviously it’s gone up since I took the screenshot first thing this morning…I’m not that bad at math 😉

In terms of monetization, the local newsletter is still at zero revenue, except for the tiny amount that came in from Beehiiv Boosts last month.

Last week I mentioned that we were thinking about adding on a paid “premium” tier to the newsletter that’s just a “support local journalism” thing for a few bucks a month.

And we’re definitely going to try that out this week. Some local newsletters offer it as a monthly payment and others do it as a yearly one. Haven’t yet decided what we’ll do.

And Axios Local sends it out as a standalone email to try to get you to support them, but I don’t think I wanna do that.

Beehiiv Ads Earnings Update

As mentioned earlier, today’s newsletter has a sponsor and I have a lot more scheduled through July 15th (so far).

Some of them pay better per click than others. Some have an earnings ceiling. Some do not.

Here’s a look at the earnings for the month of June…

Not sure if you can clearly see that, but the grand total so far is $212.40 though it’s all “awaiting approval.”

So not sure what the final amount will be. Payout is supposed to be on July 19th.

And 100% of the earnings are going to be randomly given away to a reader who has clicked on the ads.

In terms of how many people are entered into this little raffle, I’ve not gotten all the data pulled yet but it’s looking like a lot of the same people clicking each email and I can’t image it will exceed 50 people and it may end up being closer to 30 by the time I’ve verified it all.

Them’s pretty good odds.

And just reminder on how I’m counting the entries —

Each newsletter where you click on the ad = one entry for the monies. And that has to be within 72 hours of the email hitting your inbox.

That’s just the way Beehiiv does the click-counting for ads payouts.

I’ll just be pulling the data for everyone who made a click, putting them in a spreadsheet, doing a random sort and then picking a winner with the random number generator.

And I think the ad that was in my last newsletter gets counted towards July’s total cause I haven’t even gotten the report yet.
