How Are You At Site Design & Migration?

Back when I was first trying to come up with a great idea that would get me out of a cubicle, one thing that kept popping up was web design.

You all know that I’m like ancient in Internet Years, right?

So, at the time, there were maybe two main ways to make websites - get your free Blogspot domain or fire up Dreamweaver and html code that shit into existence.

I literally taught myself basic html back then (when I was supposed to be working whatever day job I had at the time). I remember I’d bought this thick ass book on how to make a site with Dreamweaver. what a time, eh?

What a fucking chore. I’ve hated web design ever since.

Fast forward to today when Growth Cupid is serving more local clients than ever. And let me tell you, local businesses seem to get taken advantage of by Shit-EOs and “web designers.”

So many charlatans selling Webflow sites to unsuspecting local businesses.

I’ll admit that Webflow sites tend to have a nice, clean look about them, but give me WordPress any day of the week. Hell, I think I’d rather even hand code on a Windows ‘95 machine with an old copy of Dreamweaver.

Anyways, here’s the thing about Webflow. It’s wicked easy to use, kind of like Elementor for 5-year-olds. Just a weird little drag and drop site builder. Good functionality and features.

BUT, it’s such a racket. You pay a monthly hosting fee to them - over-priced me thinks. If you get a client who has a site on Webflow that someone else setup, it’s a pay-for-play situation where you gotta buy Freelancer or Agency plan to get full “design” access.

Oh, and guess what, you can only pay for that on a yearly basis. And no pro-rated refunds.

What a scam.

So, I got a new client recently with a Webflow site that needs hella SEO work - last guy left him with lots of pages of lorem ipsum content.

I can’t easily access everything I need to for free…but it wouldn’t matter if I could cause you can’t just move a site from Webflow to WordPress.

There a few plugins that people have made that don’t really work well. You can export the site to CSV (I think) but good luck doing much with that.

But - you can’t export everything. Webflow is such a shit show.

An exported file that you import to WordPress often results in issues like data loss, things no longer working, design malfunction, and so on.

So, what you essentially end up having to do is a WordPress site design from the ground up to mimic the Webflow site.

THIS IS THE BUSINESS IDEA 👇👇👇

A “web design” agency that specializes in one thing - Webflow to WordPress.

I think if this is all you did, then maybe it wouldn’t seem like such a fucking chore….like it feels for me.

The downside for this business idea is that I think you’ll have to price it pretty cheap. Otherwise someone from a low cost of living country will show up offering it for pennies on the dollar.

And you’ll have to deal with clients who think a migration means you’ll make changes based on their whims.

Honestly, I think web design is a thankless business but this is still a good idea. Hell, I’ve been thinking about doing it for weeks now!

So please, someone run with this idea so that I don’t end up torturing myself by doing this one. Cause I really hate web design as a service.

Stay awesome,
