AI Music Side Hustle

What I was reading is the latest newsletter from Brooks Conkleā€™s Destroy That Box newsletter.

What heā€™s doing is using an AI music creation tool to spin up a LoFi music channel on YouTube.

If youā€™re new to it, LoFi is really popular on YouTube so I think this is a great idea.

A while back the Exploding Ideas guy was creating ā€œsoundscapeā€ audio and raking in loads of cash from Spotifyā€¦before it dried up.

I canā€™t remember exactly what happened with his Spotify earnings, but it was something about how they pay out for ā€œmusicā€ that is just something like ā€œriver soundsā€ā€¦if I remember correctly.

Anyways, Brooks is using a tool called Suno where you can create songs with lyrics, as well as instrumentals. To give you an example, this one cracked me up.

At a minimum, I see this as a cheap way to get background music for YouTube channels.

But hereā€™s the thing with this tool, as well as the other AI music tools that Iā€™ve checked out - you can only use the ā€œmusicā€ you create for commercial purposes if you are on one of their paid plans.

Thereā€™s also some stuff in the terms of service that leads me to believe they trained their AI on copyrighted music, which means this is something that could come back to bite you in the end.

All that being said, I still think itā€™s a super interesting idea for a side hustle.

You could probably do other stuff as well, like put the MP3 files up on AudioJungle and similar sites to sell the files to people who need background music.

Or, start your own site selling something like LoFi beats. Or make it a free marketplace and monetize with ads.

Iā€™m sure thereā€™s other things you can do as well. Maybe these ideas will give you some new ones.

Back to Frog and Toad lifeā€¦

Have a great rest of your weekend,

Shawna
