😲 Is Pinterest Next?

Recently I was on the Pinterest subreddit and ever since I’ve been getting daily emails with the top activity in that subreddit. (why does Reddit do this?)

And each day it seems to be about the same stuff - angry people who’ve lost their accounts.

Looks like Pinterest is deactivating accounts, which is terrible news for people trying to get traffic to their sites.

And it seems like a few different things are going on here.

AI vs AI?

There’s a LOT of chatter in that subreddit about people losing their Pinterest accounts.

Many of those are just regular users, so not site owners like us.

It seems that Pinterest is using AI to purge accounts on the site. Lots of reports of people being told they’re breaking some NSFW rules when the pin will be something completely innocent.

On a side note, this happens a TON to me on Facebook. I’ve had images of a shopping cart and a car both marked as harmful by Facebook’s AI moderation.

Anyways, that’s what seems to be going on here.

But there also been recent reports of site owners losing their accounts as well. These are people trying to get traffic to their sites.

Of course, no one is admitting that they’re spamming (if they are), so it’s difficult to say what the risks are for us.

But I do want you to be aware that it is a growing problem right now.
