๐ฉ Local Newsletter Life Update

Thatโs a lot of time.
But not a lot has happened.
More on that in a moment.
But first, Iโve got just one sponsor today. So, check โem out for a chance at some monies!

Whatโs New To Report?
Probably the most disappointing update for this is that thereโs zero new sponsors. Though I do still plan on asking my local SEO clients to do ads in the newsletter once we get in the new year.
This is not surprising as working on the newsletter has been taking a backseat to things that actually result in revenue (like client SEO).
So really, other than still publishing the local newsletter, there has been zero extra work on it since the last update.
We did gain a new premium subscriber ($50) so thatโs something, I guess.
And I did realize that since my audience is full of cheap wankers, then my playbook just cannot be the same as most local newsletters.
So, Iโve decided to focus on what Iโm good at - growing sites. This means Iโll work more on building up the blog for the newsletter and local guides on the newsletter website.
Iโve already got a guide on where to play pickleball that does well. And our happy hour directory gets loads of traffic.
I think by putting more focus on growing the newsletter website, then I can use that to drive organic subscribers to the newsletter.
This is a different playbook cause most local newsletters donโt really have a local website like this to go with the newsletter.
I also read something interesting in the private newsletter group that Iโm in. One member mentioned two monetization routes with a local newsletter โ selling ads or running events to promote/sell to the newsletter audience. But once you start doing events, youโre no longer running a local newsletter, youโre running an events business.
And I have zero interest in being an events business.

P.S. If youโre looking for high level discussions or tips on things like local SEO and Rank & Rent, I highly recommend Jacky Chouโs Advise community. Iโve been in it for several months and thereโs tons of value in it, including a SOP for local SEO.
