💼 More On A SEO Agency Pivot (part 3)

picking back up on this

In partnership with

Around two and a half weeks ago, I started talking about doing an agency pivot as a HCU-burned niche site owner.

This was a requested topic and you can read the last update on this here.

And today we’ll jump back into this.

More on that in a moment.

But first, I’ve got one sponsor today. So, check ‘em out for a chance at some monies!

Spot Your Customers Instantly

Right now, you just see a list of random email addresses making orders. But I’ve got a database with 5+ million influencers in it. I take your list of customers and show you which ones have an engaged audience. On average? 75 influencers per 5,000 shoppers. That’s free, organic marketing sitting right under your nose. Wanna see who’s secretly hyping your brand? Let’s go.

Knowing What & When To Outsource

When you’re running an agency, it would be awesome if you could do everything yourself cause all the services you sell would be pure profit.

Unfortunately, that’s not reality.

For instance, while I have the skills/ability to do 100% of the services that I sell via Growth Cupid myself, that’s not the best use of my time.

For some things, it’s a better option to find a white label service or to just hire on a freelancer for it.

Back when I was 100% focused on selling a HARO service, I had a few freelancers that worked for me full-time doing this based on my SOPs.

Today, I have a single guy I’ve recently partnered up with to do fulfillment of HARO-style links for me. He uses some AI stuff to identify opportunities, craft AI replies and then humanize them all with the click of a button.

So, it’s not a good use of my time to do these myself or pay a freelancer when I can use his white label service.

Most of the time when people white label a service, they upcharge a LOT to give themself a good margin for money making. Me? I use the HARO service as a sort of loss leader to get people in the door and hopefully sell them on something else. I up-charge just enough to make ~$20 after a 15% discount and credit card fees. More than a 15% discount and I actually lose money.

If you don’t have a lot of services, then definitely up-charge a decent amount cause you may not offer enough to sell other things to people.

How I identify what to outsource is 100% based on time.

Would it be a good use of my time to do it on my own? If not, then I look for a way to remove myself from it.

Citation links for local SEO are another thing that I outsource.

When should you start outsourcing parts of what you sell? Whenever you can afford to and it makes sense.

For most people just getting started, it likely doesn’t make sense financially to outsource from the start.

You also gotta find a partner that you can trust to deliver solid results every time. Often, I test them out with my own sites first.

Just make sure you have a backup plan if they fail to deliver!

P.S. If you’re looking for high level discussions or tips on things like local SEO and Rank & Rent, I highly recommend Jacky Chou’s Advise community. I’ve been in it for several months and there’s tons of value in it, including a SOP for local SEO.
