πŸ“¬ My New Local Newsletter Playbook

switching things up

In partnership with

I’ve been open here about the struggles I’ve had growing the local newsletter that I started like 9 months ago.

But I’m having a hard time giving up on it (even though I should). So I’ve been working on re-framing it in my mind and how I’m going to approach it.

And that means not doing what everyone else is doing, cause it’s not really working for me.

That’s what I wanna talk about.

Before we jump in, I’ve got two sponsors today. First one is …

Going In A Different Door

When I started the local newsletter, it was with the intent of scaling it by selling ads spots to local businesses.

But, I’ve learned that here in Vegas, that’s just not ideal with the local businesses.

At least not in a way that I’ve found yet.

And I don’t want to pay for any more leads ads right now until I get this figured out.

So, what does that leave?

Cause I don’t want to be putting on events.

Well, there’s two things that I can do that have worked well in the past to bring in subscribers without paying for them.

Put effort into Facebook, or put effort into the blog for the newsletter.

I think this brings me two completely different audiences though, and I’ve already got the Facebook audience…and they are cheap.

BUT…if I focus on the blog, then I can do more listicle articles. And those listicles are good for promoting on the socials.

I think the blog listicles focus is the ideal way forward here. Except that I don’t want to use AI for the content, which slows the process.

So, the listicles will bring traffic to the website, where there’s opt-ins for the newsletter = free subscribers. Plus, I could probably use display ads on the blog posts as a revenue stream until I figure out the whole selling ads to local businesses thing.

And if that fails?

I guess that leaves putting in effort into the Facebook page? Or just throwing in the towel.

Coming up…

More on what I’m working on and how it’s going.

Stay awesome,

Shawna
