Iā€™m Digging Ecomm Sites (Real Ones, Not Fake)

Last year I started my first legit ecomm site. Well, my wife was doing the real heavy lifting on that one and I just did the boring stuff like SEO.

This year though, Iā€™ve launched my own (as well as several fake ones just to fool Google) and I honestly didnā€™t expect it to be so fun.

Sure, the stuff like SEO and dealing with the terrible support at Shopify is zero fun, but the rest is totally for me.

Of course, Iā€™m not really having to manage products cause everything Iā€™m doing is POD. So, that makes it a bit more fun.

Iā€™m having a blast doing the designs for the products and Iā€™m learning a lot more about graphic design, which is cool.

But whatā€™s even better is having people buying your products and enjoying them as much as you do.

Recently, Printful added some Moleskin-style notebooks and thatā€™s one of my favorite new products to sell.

Iā€™m a notebook hoarder myself, so I know this target audience well.

just one of the stacks of notebooks in my office

But what can be really awesome about doing a POD store is that you donā€™t even need any graphic design skills cause you can get by with just text designs in so many niches.

And thatā€™s not just for notebooks. Text-based t-shirt designs also do great.

And this shit is so easy to sell. Just Instagram and Facebook ads are all you need.

You can even do an Etsy store and pay for their ads.

Best part? Ecomm sites are still so fucking easy to rank.

So, whatcha waiting for?

You donā€™t even need Shopify either if youā€™re on a tight budget. Iā€™ve got a WooCommerce store as well.

At least do yourself a favor and check out the products that Printful (my fave POD partner) offers and see if you get any ideas.

And FYI - the Growth Cupid team does do DFY Shopify sites (we can also do WooCommerce).

Beehiiv Fucks Me, Again

Okay, so hereā€™s my workflow in Beehiiv for both this newsletter and my local one.

I take a previous email newsletter and duplicate it so that I donā€™t have to re-do all the formatting.

Simples, right?

Well, that copies the old title and subtitle, which I change. (duh)

Unlike ConvertKit, Beehiiv (for some stupid fucking reason) has a Post and an Email tab for your settings. In theory, you could have different titles and subtitles for them.

If you save an email as a draft, and then edit it later your title and subtitle edits seem to only change on the Post tab.

I am well aware of this after sending out an early local newsletter with mis-matched titles and subtitles.

These days I always double check before sending out.

But every so often, even though Iā€™ve double checked and verified that the titles and subtitles matchā€¦this fucking platform will send out an old version - in my case is has been the title/subtitle from the duplicated email.

Itā€™s happened twice here and once on the local newsletter.

Whatā€™s extra weird is that the correct title and subtitle are in the actual email - itā€™s just that subject line and preview text where it gets fucked up.

And how?!?

While I do really like Beehiiv over ConvertKit, this is one of those things that they really need to take care of. And honestly, itā€™s why I have some newsletters on ConvertKitā€™s newsletter plan.

Anyways, so now you know that Iā€™m not a complete idiot sending you old subject lines.
