Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze

Paid newsletters have been around for a while. And I feel like there’s two variations of this model.

You can do a newsletter that is 100% paid, meaning you can’t read shit without paying.

Or, you can have a premium offering of a free newsletter, or essentially a hybrid model. Usually this means there are extra editions of the newsletter that you only get access to once you pay.

I think the Exploding Ideas newsletter is a good example of how you can do the hybrid model.

He does this really well with the Deep Dive link in his emails -

I imagine this converts decently for him. Though I have to admit that I’ve never bought the upgrade…but I have been tempted to!

Anyways, you might be wondering why I’m talking about this.

Well, I saw this video on my YouTube feed and though I’m only 28 minutes into it, it’s resulted in tons of ideas cluttering up my brain.

Even if you’re not interested in a paid newsletter, I think it’s still a good video for anyone doing newsletters in any form.

I do think one thing that I haven’t heard in the video (at least so far) is you don’t just go from a nobody to charging people to read your newsletter.

So, I think you need to pick a platform and start making noise there as THE person on X topic, which is the same topic you plan on covering for a paid newsletter.

Coming up…

Upcoming topics: more tips and ideas on Etsy and KDP, how it’s going with my chatGPT fiction ebook and the AI music thingie, and growing an ecomm site.

If you have a topic you want covered just reply and let me know.

Stay awesome,

Shawna

P.S. If you’re looking for high level discussions or tips on things like local SEO and Rank & Rent, I highly recommend Jacky Chou’s Advise community. I’ve been in it for several months and there’s tons of value in it, including a SOP for local SEO.
