Part 2: Picking A Genre For Your KDP Book Empire

As I’ve mentioned before, I focus on non-fiction books because the audience is okay with the ebooks being short yet having a higher than average purchase price.

What many people don’t realize is that there are best seller charts for short reads. And it is MUCH easier to get on those lists and make some decent money.

Can you make good money doing things that aren’t short reads? Of course!

I just find short reads a better option because you’re able to throw more shit at the wall and see what sticks, so to speak, since short books are quicker to create.

Here is where you find the Kindle Short Reads best sellers lists. You’ll notice that it’s even broken down by time to read.

The down side is that fiction books can also be on the short reads list. Or maybe that’s not a down side if your intention is fiction instead of non-fiction.

The first thing you’ll notice is a LOT of erotica shorts. I warned you of this in a previous email.

But, once you click on something like the One Hour Reads best sellers list, you can then select by genre.

For example, this link takes you to the One-Hour Reads best sellers list for Crafts, Hobbies, and Homes titles.

You’ll see lots of books on crochet patterns, but also things like gardening. You could totally chatGPT the shit out of some short gardening books.

And most of the covers I see right now are TERRIBLE meaning most likely dominated by indie authors AND just leveling up the cover of your book here would get you more downloads in KDP, which equals more money and better rank on the best sellers list.

There’s even a guide to garage sales on this best sellers list.

So what else does this exercise tell us? That I could have a site about crocheting, gardening, and garage sales and use a KDP ebook to promote my site.

You go from HCU hit site with no/minimal traffic, to a book on the best sellers list, which drives some new traffic to your site where you may make affiliate or ads monies.

Oh, and the best part? You can link out to your fucking website in the book!

People can go from their Kindle to your affiliate post to buy the tools you tell them they need for their crochet project or garage sale.

Or start a newsletter that you can link out to and get subscribers that you can monetize.

Though you can make good money from just Amazon’s KDP program, the real money is when you think bigger like this.

Do you get the potential here? And why you shouldn’t go all in on just ebooks when you can grow something epic?
