Howā€™d you spend your weekend?

I got outside since it was the first time the temps here were below 100F. And I spent some time learning about new things in the Advise community.

Speaking of communities, I am moving my paid forum to a Skool community and for a limited time Iā€™m opening up the membership for free (just until I get all the members moved). If you wanna join, sign up here.

I also spent some time on the weekend answering some emails from yā€™all.

More on that in a moment.

But first, Iā€™ve got another sponsor today. So, give ā€˜em a click to check out their offer and get entered to win ALL the ads earnings for the month.

So Many Optionsā€¦

One of the reader emails that Iā€™ve replied to in recent days mentioned the difficulty of knowing where to put attention these days - Niche sites, Ecommerce, Client SEO or YouTube.

Like Tony, I agree that niche sites arenā€™t officially dead yet - but how we need to approach them and think of them is different (looking like an ecomm, multiple traffic streams, etc).

But if youā€™ve gone from making a butt load of money from niche sites to a few hundred bucks a month, then what do you put your focus on?

I think that is going to vary by person and really depends on your strengths and your resources.

For example, if youā€™ve got some wicked video editing skills, then YouTube is probably a great focus for you. But if you need to buy equipment and your budget canā€™t handle that, then maybe not YouTube just yet.

I get a lot of emails like this asking me how to know what the next best thing is since the niche site landscape has changed.

As someone who has always been focused on flipping sites, I like to focus on things that have that flipping potential. I talked about this in an email last week.

Iā€™ve never focused on just one thing though.

I get bored with just one thing. And I find it too risky to go all in one thing.

Yes, this means that nothing gets the bulk of my attention, which inevitably dilutes the potential of all my projects.

But - this is also why HCU + getting targeting by Google and having 19 sites deindexed for a bullshit penalty wasnā€™t catastrophic for me.

At the end of the day, you should focus on what makes the most sense for you (and your family?).

And for fucks sake, please focus on something that has longevity. No one wants a HCU repeat in other verticals.

For the people who have shared their options with me, what Iā€™ve seen with the most future-proof potential are client SEO and ecomm sites. But nothing is guaranteed.

Week 19 of Newsletter Life Starts Now

Today marks week #19 of doing a local newsletter on Beehiiv.

Weā€™re currently a few subscribers over 3,200 (as of this morning).

Did a some cold outreach for sponsors last week, but only got one reply out of around 25 emails.

That reply was from a national restaurant chainā€¦but they have to wait for approval from corporate before they can commit to anything.

Honestly, I should have expected that and not even contacted them, but weā€™ll see how it ends up.

Reminder: I'm writing updates about my local newsletter on Twitter here.

Next Timeā€¦

Upcoming topics: more tips and ideas on Etsy and KDP, how itā€™s going with my chatGPT fiction ebook and the AI music thingie, and growing an ecomm site.

If you have a topic you want covered just reply and let me know.

Stay awesome,

Shawna

P.S. If youā€™re looking for high level discussions or tips on things like local SEO and Rank & Rent, I highly recommend Jacky Chouā€™s Advise community. Iā€™ve been in it for several months and thereā€™s tons of value in it, including a SOP for local SEO.
