🤖 Pinterest Going Rogue

If you use Pinterest, then you probably got an email this week about some updates to their terms of service and privacy policy.

The great thing about the internet is that if a company tries to do something shady in the ToS then it spreads like wildfire on social media.

So you may have already seen this…

Another Day, Another Company Stealing Your Shit

Pinterest has now joined the ranks of companies training AI on all your data. And, of course, you gotta opt-out if you don’t wanna be part of it.

Here’s something I’ve not seen anyone mention - what about the people who DON’T use Pinterest but a Pinterest user pins an original image from their site?

Let’s say I’m a photographer and I publish my photos on my site and sell them through there. Then, someone sees one of my photos and likes it enough to pin it to one of their boards.

But I don’t have a Pinterest account, so how am I supposed to protect my copyrighted images?

It will be interesting to see how long it takes before Pinterest gets sued by someone like this.

I also think it’s interesting that Pinterest is supposedly shutting down some accounts for “spam” that are using AI…when Pinterest also admits that it does AI now?

I can only assume it’s cause they don’t want their AI training on AI data. But that ship has sailed.

As soon as chatGPT became a thing, I stopped manually writing pin descriptions. Pretty sure that’s true for most people.

So whatever AI that Pinterest is training, it’s going to end up trained on mostly AI. At least that’s what I suspect.

What a weird time to be in this industry.
