Some friends of mine run an online business that’s a social media SaaS.

The domain for their site is DR86.

Today, I just happened to notice that a link from their site to one of mine was showing up as “dead” in Semrush.

I checked the domain, and it read: This domain is expired. If this is your domain, click here to renew.

Terrible, Right?

I can’t imagine how I’d feel if I lost not only a DR86 domain, but the domain for a SaaS site.

They hadn’t even noticed.

I texted them immediately. There was panic, as you might expect.

Luckily, the domain only expired on Friday so they’re still within the recovery period with Namecheap.

I think what happened was the credit card for renewal had expired without them knowing it.

So, consider this your reminder to check the credit card you have on file with your domain registrar.

And maybe your hosting company, too.
