🫠 I Renewed The Wrong Domain

and where the best place is to buy/renew domains

In partnership with

I realize that a lot of you got out of the website game, but if you do still have domains then today is your day.

I still have a fuckload of them. And I’m still buying more.

ICANN raised the base price of them at the start of this month. But that’s not what I wanna share today.

More on that in a moment.

But first, I’ve got another sponsor today. So, give ‘em a click to check out their offer and get entered to win ALL the ads earnings for the month.

It Started With A Glass Of Wine

I was finishing up my day and that included renewing a few domains that I had missed last month when I was trying to beat the domain cost increase.

The next morning when I was looking at the receipt, I realized that I’d renewed one that I had meant to let expire.

So, I emailed Namecheap to ask that they cancel that and refund it.

I’ve done this before with NameSilo and it’s been no issue.

Apparently, it is an issue with most other registrars. Namecheap is firmly no refunds.

And pretty much everywhere else that I checked.

But here’s the thing about NameSilo - until the ICANN price increase they had prices pretty similar to NameCheap.

Though today they seem to be competing with GoDaddy for shitty pricing.

But if you want to deposit at least $50 with NameSilo, then it works as “funds” in their Discount Program and you get better pricing.

Can’t find anywhere in their terms if you can withdraw un-used funds though.

Seems sus.

Anyways, I recently discovered PorkBun and it seems pretty solid. Plus .com’s are on sale there right now for $6.99 for the first year.
