πŸ˜– Side Hustle FOMO?

ya can't do 'em all

In partnership with

I think something you don’t see people promoting side hustles talk about often, if ever?, is that you can’t do them all.

You can pick one. Or a few. And hope that you picked some good ones.

The problem we come up against here is opportunity cost. If I pick side hustle X, what do I lose or gain by not picking side hustle Y?

And this doesn’t just apply to side hustles.

That’s what I wanna talk about.

Before we jump in, I’ve got two sponsors today. First one is …

Long Term vs Short Term Gains

I’m always doing multiple things at the same time, so for me the decision making on what to do or test is all about long term vs short term gains.

Going back to the topic the other day on scaling up a Pinterest account to where you can make $6K+ monthly in display ads, I think that would be a short term gain.

Why? Because I suspect it’s just a matter of time before Pinterest starts cracking down the the AI images and the spamming of Pinterest with tons of daily pins.

And I think you probably have to do both of those things to reach that sort of income.

But…could those short term gains be worth it?

If I spend time on the Pinterest scaling as a test, what will I not be able to work on?

  • agency growth?

  • faceless YouTube?

  • KDP books?

  • local newsletter?

  • anything else I’m working on that I forgot about?

Obviously most of you aren’t doing as many things at once as I am.

Beyond what will I not be able to work on, I take moment to consider if whatever it is that I’m considering is something with long-term revenue potential or short-term.

I also like to think about if it’s something that I can flip, which likely won’t apply to the Pinterest scaling, at least for me.

Why? Because I’d test it on a site that’s de-indexed by Google and already on Mediavine. No one wants to buy a site that won’t show up on Google.

Are short-term gains ever worth it? Yes.

It’s possible that the whole Pinterest scaling thing could be worth it for some people. Not yet decided if it is for me.

What about you?
