⏱️ Which One Are You?

I’ve been noticing something on Twitter that I’ve purposely kept quiet on.

I know. That’s not like me.

But I also know that without talking to someone in person, it’s easy to make incorrect assumptions about tone/motivation/etc.

And I think this is something that could easily some across as being an asshole.

Touchy subjects are like that.

Wisdom From Bluey

I think some of the best advice for troublesome times comes from the awesome kids show “Bluey.” It’s from the mom (Chilli) when the youngest kid (Bingo) has trouble getting her part right in a play and runs out of the room crying and upset -

✅ Have a little cry...

✅ Pick yourself up...

✅ Dust yourself off...

✅ And keep going! The show must go on!

You can be the type of person that Chilli is - taking time to wallow and feel bad for yourself, but then know it’s time to get back on the wagon and try again… or you can be like Bingo and just want to hide in a closet of misery.

So, why am I quoting Bluey today?

Because ever since Google had those bloggers fly in to discuss HCU, I keep seeing them on my Twitter feed with tweets that seem to be coming from their closet of misery.

And I get it. What Google did to bloggers and all small website owners was a proper fucking.

It also wasn’t the first time Google has destroyed someone’s livelihood.

But how long has it been now? The time has long passed to move on and start looking for new paths forward. I would love to see the days of spinning up sites and flipping them for 35x come back.

I made really good money from that. And this new reality sucks. But what are the alternatives?

And there are still SO many opportunities out there.

Honestly, I feel really bad for this group of bloggers. If you’re stuck in the same closet of misery, then I feel really bad for you, too.

And I’m happy to offer you advice on how you can move forward if you want to reach out.

If I remember correctly, one of these bloggers recently mentioned having to sell their house. And that kind of financial stress is a terrible place to find yourself in.

I realize that a lot of this comes from a place of fear. Not just fear of the unknown, but fear of new things.

Fear of ‘what ifs’ coming true. Fear of the worst case scenario being a reality.

I think part of it is an identity issue as well. I remember recently seeing one of these bloggers saying something similar to not wanting to give up on the site they’d spent the last 10 years of their life on.

Yeah that sucks. I’ve got sites like that, too. Letting them go was hard, but I’m better for it.

But here’s the thing I’m trying to get to - I think the people are who remaining stuck are the ones who are going to have a lot of regret in the near future.

Taking action and working to evolve is how you take steps to prevent regret. At least in this arena. So, if you’re stuck, I urge you to just try something new. Anything.
