🄈 Why Search Engines Are Losing

and AI is winning

When I left my house for the gym this morning, a little before 8am, there was what appeared to be a dead bat near my front door. Along with a bunch of bat poop and various bug parts.

It was a bit disturbing, but I figured it wasn’t going anywhere, so I locked the door and went on to the gym.

Upon my return, the dead bat was gone (!?) and in the corner was a baby bat chirping like crazy.

Got inside and looked up wtf to do about this.

A Clear Winner

Bing and Google had similar results to the searches I did. Both mentioned that baby bats have rabies and that they are known to chirp. ā€œLike birds!ā€ one site exclaimed.

Since I didn’t intend to touch it, the results led me to believe it was nothing to worry about.

Well, I guess my wife thought something was amiss because while I continued some additional workouts downstairs, she went up to her office and fired up chatGPT.

While I was working out, I heard her on the phone. Then she came downstairs to tell me me that animal control is on the way.

Apparently this is, in fact, a serious situation. ChatGPT told her to immediately call animal control, and when she made they call they said it was a priority for them.

The big concern is rabies spreading. And they were concerned that we’d touched it (or might have if we’d not called). They also said that if there was a dead bat and now there’s a baby in distress (the daytime chirping is a tell-tale sign), that likely the baby will die…something will eat it…that thing will get rabies, give it to more things, and so the cycle goes.

Neither Bing or Google surfaced this information with several related searches. The same search in chatGPT gave us pretty important information the first time.

Kind of crazy when you think about it.

I’d have been so mad if I got rabies. šŸ˜…
