and you're not mad enough about the right things

In partnership with

Unsurprisingly, some of you were very triggered by yesterday’s email and, as one person put it on their complaint, “the c-word”.

But your outrage and pearl-clutching have you upset about the wrong things.

More on that in a moment.

I Make No Apologies For Colorful Language

I am outraged at Google’s behavior, specifically how they strung along so many bloggers with the promise that if they just jumped through more hoops, then they’d see recovery.

Are you not mad/upset/etc about this?

I am outraged for the people that attended their sham “creator event” just to get bamboozled by Google…again.

Didn’t you feel that?

I am outraged at the disdain from Danny in that interview.

Did that not give you stronger feelings than a four-letter word?

Did you even make it past that to see the things I was sharing for you to look at?

Or did you share the same sentiment of one respondent - “that wasn’t very productive.”

What a pity. You should know what’s going on and it should make you mad.

That wasn’t the first time I’ve sent a newsletter out referring to Google as a bunch of cunts. And it probably won’t be the last.

Google is fucking site owners up the ass and people are concerned about my language.

If you prefer sanitized emails with no real opinions, there’s plenty of gurus keeping their emails PG so they can shill ya some over-priced course…and then another one in three weeks…and another one in six weeks…

Or, you can hang around and learn about Mediavine appointing themselves the moral authority on AI content.

In the Raptive Facebook group, this was posted yesterday -

I’ve highlighted the parts that you should pay attention to.

They’re using a company to scan all Mediavine sites, and I guess everyone who installs Grow to get into Journey?

All for the purpose to find AI sites (is this just content? just images? both?) and not allow them to join Mediavine.

But they’re not satisfied with just that.

These asshats are taking it a step further - “we actively work to ensure they’re unable to monetize with any other ad tech networks as well.”

What the actual fuck.

When I was on Mediavine and another Mediavine site was straight up plagiarizing my content, they didn’t care. But suddenly, they’re the moral authority on keeping the internet free of AI sites.

And why?

I can’t imagine anyone told them to do this. Google sure as shit doesn’t care, as evidenced by all the obvi AI sites in the SERPs running AdSense ads.

This is problematic for so many reasons.

What if you’d paid a freelance writer and unknowingly gotten AI content?

Mediavine isn’t letting people defend themselves against this blacklisting, and sometimes immediate removal.

Sometimes non-native English content is worse quality than full AI content.

AI content detectors are notorious for false positives. (and incredibly easy to fool)

Sure, it’s fine and obvi their right if they want to take the stance that they want zero AI sites running their ads.

But actively working to ensure they’re unable to monetize with any other ad tech networks as well? That’s crossing the line.

Coming up…

Upcoming topics: probably something with my four-letter word commentary that will offend some people.

If you have a topic you want covered just reply and let me know.

Stay awesome,
