13. Hockey Romance Ghostwriter Series on Amazon (fiction)

I saw someone making a killing in the hockey romance genre on Amazon and wondered if I could hire a ghostwriter and make some good money.

Did a 3-book series….and I botched the launch of every single book in the series because I was working on too many things at once.

I think if I’d set aside dedicated time to schedule promos so that it was a one and done thing for me, then this would have gone better.

But I do think this shows promise.

In fact, I have more books lined up and paid for. Despite still being in the negative for my initial investment.

I’m confident that building up a backlist for this pen name will be worth it. Or maybe I’ll start a new pen name? I haven’t really decided yet.

Here’s what the total earnings look like for the year -

I know, not impressive. But I did warn you.

The bulk of the income was from book #1, which is the only book that I ran paid promos for.

So, let that be a lesson for you if you’re planning on trying something similar.

14. Another JV Project

I know what you’re thinking - I don’t have the best track record doing these. But I feel like this one is different. And we have a simple contract.

Someone who started out as a student and I think of now as more fellow entrepreneur/friend asked me if I wanted to help basically build up other traffic/revenue streams of his Mediavine site and then we flip it once that’s accomplished.

Since I’ve seen success doing this myself, I said yes and so I’m doing the Pinterest and Facebook for the site.

We’re not yet in the Facebook Bonus program, but I think it’s only a matter of time. Plus, this was a Q4 project so it’s fairly new.

And then there’s the matter of when the Facebook stuff was all setup and scheduled and the scheduler being used crapped out after the first few days and I had no idea…

Yeah, that probably set us back a little.

15. Beehiiv Newsletter with Ads + Boost Recommendations

I’m not sure if this one counts since it wasn’t done as an income stream, but I’m including it since you could start a newsletter on Beehiiv and make money on ads.

I moved this newsletter to Beehiiv halfway through the year. So in around six months time that revenue was a little over $3,600.

That’s not a terrible monthly average but not amazing either. Of course, I keep my list intentionally small.

And, I was doing daily emails for a large portion of that time period. So that means if you look at this as an income source, it’s a terrible hourly rate.

I wasn’t doing it with a focus on income, but it still gets listed here.

I’ll share what I’d focus on this year if I could only do ONE thing to make money. And I’ll share what I do actually intend to work on this year.
